Teachers Day Greetings!

Aristotle once said “Teachers, who educate children, deserve more honour than parents, who merely gave them birth; for the latter provided mere life, while the former ensure a good life”. The profession of a teacher is always changing, a friend, a philosopher, a worker, a commander. All this takes place in the physical confines of a classroom, with the ever changing demands from other teachers, new exams, new curricula, new subjects; it is not an understatement to say that being a good teacher, like being a good parent, is one of the most testing occupations in existence.

Today we at i-learner would like to thank all teachers for their hard work. The philospher Ralph Waldo Emerson once said ‘The great teacher is not the man who supplies the most facts, but the one in whose presence we become different people’. Teaching is a profession that shapes the people, the face of a country. The success of Hong Kong and the unity and quality of its people speak volumes for the nature of its teachers. One example of this is the firemen who lost their lives in Mong Kok while saving those of others; such selflessness and regard for human welfare are traits are hard to come by. Teachers touch the lives of their students and may never know where their influence ends.

The forthcoming year will see a host of changes take place, making new demands on the teaching profession. We hope that our teachers can settle into this new routine and continue to bring out the best in the young people of Hong Kong.
